Naor, Miriam

Miriam Naor, President of the Israeli Supreme Court, was born in Jerusalem. After completing her military service in the Israel Defense Forces, she earned her degree in law (summa cum laude) from the Hebrew University in 1972. From 1972 to 1979, she worked for the State Prosecution of Israel.  She was appointed a Judge in the Jerusalem Magistrates Court in 1980; in 1989, she was appointed Judge in the Jerusalem District Court, becoming Deputy President of Administrative Matters in 2000. President Naor served as Acting Justice of the Supreme Court of Israel from 2001 to 2002. In June 2003, she was appointed Supreme Court Justice.  She became the Deputy President of the Supreme Court in May 2012 and President on January 15, 2015.  Her comments on being sworn in as President are available (in English) here.
