Sussman, Yoel

Born in 1910 in Kraków, Poland, Yoel Sussman received an LL.B. from the University of London and an LL.D. from Heidelberg University. He immigrated to Israel in 1934. With the establishment of the State of Israel, Sussman was appointed Chief Prosecutor of the Israel Defense Forces. In 1949 he was appointed District Justice in Tel Aviv. Sussman became first a Supreme Court Justice in 1953 and then the Court’s President in 1976, a position he held until his retirement from the Court in 1980. Sussman published a number of scholarly books in Jurisprudence for which he received the Israel Prize in Jurisprudence. Sussman passed away in 1982 at the age of 72.
