Malz, Yaakov
Born in 1923 in Lviv, Poland, Yaakov Malz immigrated to Israel with his family in 1925. Malz received his legal education in Tel Aviv’s Advanced School for Law and Economics (later to become Tel Aviv University). With the founding of the State of Israel in 1948, Malz served for three years as a police officer, then worked as a lawyer and as a lecturer in the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In 1979 he was appointed as a district judge in Tel Aviv and in 1986 as a Supreme Court Justice, a position he held until his retirement in 1993. After his retirement, Malz served on a number of national committees, including the “Malz Committee,” which was responsible for examining the higher education system in Israel.
