Manny, Eliyahu
Eliyahu M. Manny was born in Hebron in 1907, studied in the Hebrew Teachers College in Jerusalem, and then studied law in the University of Liverpool. In 1932 Manny was accredited as a lawyer and notary in the UK and then returned to Israel in 1933. During the years 1942-1948, Manny served as the Mexican consul to Israel, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon. Upon the founding of the State of Israel, Manny was appointed as a district judge in Jerusalem and in 1952 as the president of the Jerusalem District Court. In 1962 he was appointed to the Supreme Court, the first Mizrachi Jew to hold that position. Manny remained in the Supreme Court until his retirement in 1977. He passed away in 1993 at the age of 85.
