Netanyahu, Shoshana
Born Shoshana Shenberg in Danzig, Poland in 1923, Netanyahu immigrated to Israel with her family in 1924. Netanyahu studied law at the Mandatory School of Law, graduating in 1946. In 1949, she married Elisha Netanyahu, uncle of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. In 1969 Netanyahu was appointed to the Haifa Magistrate’s Court and in 1974 to the District Court. In 1981 Netanyahu was appointed to the Supreme Court, where she remained in service until her retirement in 1993. In 1988 Netanyahu presided over the “Netanyahu Commission,” a State Commission of Inquiry regarding the Israeli health system. In 1997 Netanyahu was again commissioned to head a State Commission of Inquiry regarding the age of retirement in Israel. In 2003 Netanyahu was awarded the Yakir Yerushalayim (Worthy Citizen of Jerusalem) prize.
