Schereschewsky, Ben-Zion
Ben-Zion Schereschewsky was born in 1908 in Königsberg, then part of Germany (today, part of Russia). Schereschewsky went to law school in the University of Königsberg in 1925, completing an LL.D. in 1929. Schereschewsky practiced law in Königsberg until 1934, when he immigrated to Israel and worked as a lawyer there. With the founding of the State of Israel, Schereschewsky was appointed to the Jerusalem District Court. In 1958 Schereschewsky published a book on family law in Israel, earning him the Rabbi Kook Prize for Religious-Jewish Literature that year. In 1975 he was appointed as a Justice in the Supreme Court, a position he retained until his retirement in 1977. Schereschewsky passed away in 1999 at the age of 91.
