Silberg, Moshe

Moshe Silberg was born in Skaudvile, Lithuania, in 1900. He studied at various yeshivot, including Klem, Mir, Slabodka and Novardok. In 1920 Silberg moved to Germany, where he received his legal education at the University of Frankfurt. In Frankfurt, Silberg was influenced by the Zionist movement, and he immigrated to Israel in 1929. As a result of his relationship with Hayim Nahman Bialik, Silberg delivered regular lectures in Talmud at the Ohel Shem Association between 1931 and 1948. Upon the establishment of the State of Israel, Silberg was appointed to the District Court in Tel Aviv. In 1950 Silberg was appointed as a Supreme Court Justice and remained there until his retirement in 1970. As a judge, Silberg would often draw ideas from Jewish haw. He was also a professor of law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Silberg passed away in 1975 at the age of 75.
