Smoira, Moshe

Moshe Smoira was born in Königsberg, Prussia (then part of Germany; today, part of Russia) in 1888. He received his legal education in a number of institutions, including the Universities of Königsberg, Munich, Berlin, Giessen, Heidelberg, and Frankfurt. Smoira immigrated to Israel in 1920 where he worked as a lawyer and as a lecturer in the Mandatory Law School in Jerusalem. With the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, Smoira was appointed President of the newly founded Supreme Court. Smoira retired in 1954 following a severe illness, and passed away in 1961.
